The Venetian cutaway was developed in 1939 by The Gibson company and the term was used by them to describe the graceful lines of the soft cutaway. It has since been generically used to describe most all the cutaways. The Florentine cutaway came about during the 60's I am not sure of the year or the actual reason for the term. I believe it started with the ES 175 and is credited to both Ted McCarty and Kenney Burrell.
