Hi, everybody. My name is Perry. I am from Taipei and have moved to Vancouver, Canada since 98. I have been here and browsing the forum for quite a while, but most suprisingly, I found people here not only knows guitar so much, but also read English. You guys can reply and discuss in Chinese though. : ) Talk about my story. I have play folk guitar for a while. I used to have fun with acompanying singing with acoustic guitar a lot, but recently, I fall in love with electric guitar. I am currently learning electric guitar from 征服琴海 and 狂戀瘋琴. Electric guitar is so cool! I love the sound of distortion too. For electric guitar, there's little tension on the strings, and you can make great sound with all kinds of techniques, like trill, glissand, and choking. I also learning basic bass using 摸透電貝士. You may think I am too greedy, it's hard to learn two new things at the same time. I agree, but I just want to have fun with both of them! Did I mention I love slap bass too? HoHo! Anyways, currently, I am having a cheap Yamaha EG112(which is a cheaper version of Yamaha Pacifica112 with basswood) and SX J Bass(Bought that since people in forum seem to enjoy that). You guys may think both of them are cheap sh*t, but anyways, I am just a poor university student who wants to learn it and have some fun. Since I improve my guitar skill a lot, and I want to upgrade my guitar with limited bugget, give me a suggestion about which guitar to get under 300USD plz? Mainly looking at brands like Ibanez, ESP, Yamaha, Epiphone or SX. I wanna a electric guitar good for solo. Good for most types of music since I am new. Especially classical metal(the kind with fast picking!) and Rock(not heavy metal though, I hate the korn whose music makes me headache, but love Red Hot Chilly Pepper and Green Days). I am a huge 張震嶽 fan, and I have seen him using a tele in the concert in Vancouver. What do you guys think about the SX telecastor? You like classical metal then you should try Fender's Yngwie's Guitar, I think you know that he is a such good classical metal player!!! (A mi tambien toco la bass ahah es muy estupendo~~~)
I think that you should save more momey to buy some better guitar.Because the quality of guitar under 300USD is almost the same as your YAMAHA guitar.Maybe you can think about some secondhand guitars.
Dude, thanx a lot for ur input, but the cheapest Fender Yngwie Malmsteen Strat available is 1399USD. It's way too much for me. By the way, I like Yngwie's play, but that guitar is plain ugly in my opinion. Really? 300USD will get me a similar guitar? Hmmm...That's too bad. I guess you are right. I have thought about the probability of that. How much money should I save up and which guitar I should get then? How about Fender standard Tele or Strat for 370USD, are they good enough for a good start? : (
well ...actually, yamaha guitars are good for starter. most of them are well made and probably better than those 300USD guitars (excluding the sound quality of the guitar, the hand feeling is much more better; however, beginners mostly do not find sound deferences between guitars. This might be the reason that made you thinking buying low priced guitars^^) My first guitar was a YAMAHA pacifica 012 (even worst than the 112 XD), the humbucker sounded alright for me, since i was a beginner that time, the singlecoils sounded weak, lack of strength but its good for clean tone. The finishing of the guitar was great, much more better than those squier strats, and they are the same price level guitar, so why choosing squier? You should really keep your Yamama and take good care of her, save more money for a better guitar which can make big difference comparing to your Yamaha. If you still looking for a lower priced guitar, sure you will get a guitar with a shape that you like, but I'm pretty sure that you won't like to play it. ^^ good luck : ) --- just curious about where do you live near? i lived in richmond, but studyin in vancouver you can go to long&maquade music located around granville st. and broadway, go try out some guitars ^^
In the price under USD300, it's diffucult to find a guitar better than a yamaha. But if you don't mind a used one, I think you can get a Carvin on Ebay. It's Very cool and even beat any guitar under USD1000. If you have USD600, you can order an all new custom made Carvin. Very very useful suggestion. Thanx a lot. You are totally right at that point, I can't tell the sound difference between guitars. Just think a Tele looks great.
