各位網友新年愉快 ！！ 小弟剛從Oxford的SSL headquarter 見識了傳聞中的"K 9000" console 回來,原本只是因為有許多London 的"大腳"engineers 都參加了這次premiere lunch party,SSL又熱心的安排了交通接送,所以才去湊熱鬧,見見"名人",但在耳聞目睹了XL K 9000 的demo後(which is the very first time with A real K 9000 desk),卻改變了我原本認為Multi ch audio 只應 in digital domain 的想法!! 事實上XL K 9000的Multi Monitorring System,Surround Panning automation,實在太方便 !當場大部份的engineers 都同意傳統的stereo mixing 和surround mixing 可以在一次session 有效率的完成,並間接的提高了mixing engineer 在surround mixing 時的creative will,,, 那天的demo,雖然時間很短,但有幾個功能個人覺得實在太棒了!(though it is costy !!) # one botton switch in dufferent format monitoring,(ST,5.1,7.1,DSD or Dolby LF for sub bass) # UltiPan automated surround panning system,,movement operates via fader,pot,mouse or optical pan... # Plug the external DAW(such as ProTools)into the console's monitor screen and opertae with the SAME mouse or pan or keyboard devices..which means you don't turn back to check your DAW, just press botton and it is in front of the screen.(communicate via USB port) #Lovely re-drawn of the automation pannel.. # A analogue desk !! 我不敢妄想自己何時可以在XL 9000K上作事,但我知道那些在Hit Factory Studios 和Larrabe West Studios 的Engineers 很快會用XL 9000K 作出用analogue desk mixing 的作品,大錄音室or Big analogue console 有沒有搞頭or有沒有必要存在,好像又露出一些希望!!
大家也新年愉快！ 你講的那個mixer是不是analog的mixer？如果是類比的，那如何能自由地在5.1等個channels pan相位呢？一般mixer也只能做stereo 兩軌的pan，它是怎麼設計的？
To C 我試著解釋surround pan,雖然可能很亂而且不詳盡,....., 如果在2D的正方形的四個角標出Left,Right ,SR Left and SR Right,再取L,R 的中心為C,這就是5.1的5 個speakers,(sub bass 的低頻不太關係position),連結L&R,,L &SR L,,R & SR R,,C & SR L&SR R(MS Stereo),這樣的4 個LCR stereo bus routing matrix,under 在一個master monitor fader,如果 如一般stereo panning ,all channels route into each stereo bus,and positioning in between 2 speakers pairs,而且fader simultaneous access to all busses,這樣的設計在加上6 ch 的efx insert return route to the main surround mix,就成了一部surround mixer,,, 這樣寫不知能不能給你一個很rough 的概念,,基本上來說你須要能控制每個ch 在4 組ST bus 的 position 來達成一組completely cover 2D square surround sound field !!而directional sound movement則須要至少兩組ST 的 sync volume change....（on XL you can just write with a wacom pen...which I found much better than faders & joysticks,,,and very "real time &place ") anyway,,我相信Press 會開始廣告,也許就一兩個月後吧!!我覺得比較有趣的是那些幸運的mixing engineer會如何揮灑他們的想像力or 會如何影響人們的聽覺映象,..想像你有一組還標準的5.1 audio system 和一張Madonna的surround DVD-Audio,,,,Believe me,even I would mix the Madonna's vocal sings arround your chin & back sexy and easily with that posh XL 9000 k desk,我本來不太期待any surround format at all,但我想我現在考慮存點錢去買speakers !!
To Mickey Position in graphic 當然是有的,並且螢幕上的聲音位置和speakers 之間的關係,可以用fader or pen or mouse 來任意調整,(real time and automated),可是XL 9000K 是昂貴的玩具,有這些功能是應該的,只是我認為this desk does the job very convincely,far more better than any systems' performance ever exits....再加上jellyfish meter,大幅提高了engineers mixing with sound movements 的方便性與可能性!! 此外如果mixing with ProTool system(while in demo),center section 的螢幕還可以用來監看或控制 external DAW,實在是一種奢華的享受!!不是嗎?..
