It starts with the ML-1, an extremely high definition, ultra linear, large diaphragm condenser microphone. To ensure that the ML-1 avoids any color when recorded to the workstation, Slate also created the VMS-ONE preamp. Finally, we get to the VMS plugin, which turns the clean, predictable signal coming from the VMS hardware into classic recreations of famous microphones and microphone preamps. The VMS algorithms add zero latency, so real-time recording is no problem. The Slate Digital VMS Virtual Microphone System, including the ML-1 mic (with shock mount and case), the VMS-ONE preamp, and the VMS plugin, is available now for $999. It requires OS X 10.7 or later, an iLok2, and an AU, VST, or AAX plugin host.
